PIZZA... and a Silent Auction
Pizza!
Now that I’ve got your attention with Pizza, because seriously who doesn’t love pizza?? Let’s chat about how the heck pizza and your silent auction are connected.
Are you new to the world of silent auctions and overwhelmed about where to even start? I bet you spend all your free time pinning away on Pinterest to a board, that you are now just as overwhelmed about. Or maybe you sent your volunteers out to “get whatever they can” and now have a living room filled with the most random collection of items and no clue how you are going to create a package around teeth whitening & a set of Cutco knives.
The struggle is real
I don’t think I’m being presumptuous if I guessed there are many of you out there with these same types of problems. Maybe I could start Silent Auctions Anonymous. A place where you should share all the horrific things you have to make into a cohesive gift basket. Huh?? I think I’m on to something . . .I’ll file that idea for later.
So about that pizza. What if, I told you there is a much easier, stress free way to get ideas for auction items and you can simultaneously be a good steward to your procurement committee at the same time?
Top Trends
Have you ever considered researching the top trends your demographic is most interested in, rather than physical ideas of silent auction packages? Finding out what your attendees are genuinely interested in, allows you to narrow down your silent auction scavenger hunt tremendously. It also allows you to build a purposeful list of items for your committee to go procure. So instead of asking them to get “whatever you can get” they have direction. Which I’m telling you, your volunteers will LOVE you for!
Create a local experience
Consider my pizza example. People love Pizza. And Pizzerias seem to be popping up on every corner. Not just another Little Caesars or Pizza Hut type place; I’m talking wood fired, hand tossed, grandma’s recipe situations that people are intrigued to try them all and Yelp about later type places. I see this as an opportunity. An opportunity for you to pitch the ask for a $50 gift card from each of these lovely establishments and an opportunity for your guests to win a full on “Tour de Pizza” experience. (Side note, while you are there make sure to ask for a pizza box too so you can create an awesome display) This turns into a $500+ value auction item that not only has intention but offers something that is unique and appealing to your demographic and they will “eat it” right up! Want to now how I know? Because I did my research and trends show people love experiences, they love food and they love supporting local.
